Welcome to Edmonton John Howard Society | Supportive Housing in Edmonton

Who we are

We believe in enabling people to lead a fulfilling life and be active contributors to their community.

Edmonton John Howard Society is more than a service provider. To our clients, we are the family many of them never had. People come to us when the world doesn’t seem to welcome them or when the path forward is hidden by fear, self-doubt and closed doors. Our door is always open. Just like a family, we provide a home to some and safe shelter to all. We listen, we care, we reach out and we support. We celebrate with our clients when they succeed and we welcome them back when they stumble.

Who we serve

At Edmonton John Howard Society, we serve young people without support systems, people impacted by family violence, and men and women at risk or involved with the justice system. All find a warm welcome and the help they need to discover hope in their lives. We also work to build understanding about the causes and consequences of crime and to prevent crime in our communities through public education.

What we offer

At Edmonton John Howard Society, we offer hope and opportunities through a variety of practical services and innovative programs:

  • Housing and help finding housing
  • Help finding employment
  • Help finding other community services
  • Supportive services
  • Anger management courses
  • Public Legal Education programs for schools and community groups
  • Financial Literacy Courses at the New Edmonton Remand Centre
  • Housing for youth experiencing homelessness
  • Services for individuals involved in domestic violence

Recent Announcements

Thanks to many, NOVA gets an on-site Mental Health Counsellor!

Homeward Trust Edmonton’s 2nd Annual Homeward Walk Run took place on June 22, 2014. Donations were raised to support Edmonton John Howard Society’s NOVA program. NOVA helps young men and women who are struggling with homelessness, addictions, and mental health issues to build their skills and relationships in a supported living space. Thanks to the generous sponsorship of Yardstick, ATB Financial, Chandos, Divine Hardwood Flooring, Runfit, B&B Demolition, Midwest, Redbrick, and Rohit Communities over $50,000 was raised towards NOVA’s efforts in ending youth homelessness.

EJHS is excited to announce that as a result of the generous Walk Run donations, we have been able to secure another $50,000 in matching funds from the Stollery Foundation. Together, this $100,000 will allow NOVA to provide an on-site Mental Health counsellor for the next five years benefitting approximately 150 youth!

Research shows that mental health is a major factor contributing to homelessness and that youth are a population whose mental health and addiction-related needs are not being met. Our primary goal is that each resident of NOVA becomes well enough to live permanently on his or her own, with the necessary skills to be successful. We will now be able to solidify our partnership with The Mark Harman Group in order to provide the counselling, assessment and support services needed to meet both our current and future client needs.
