Our History
Edmonton John Howard Society (EJHS) is a non-profit organization that has served the Edmonton community for over 50 years.
Formed in 1949 and incorporated as an independent society in 1984, EJHS was initially staffed with two to three people who supplied basic food and clothing, helped find shelter and offered employment assistance to prisoners just released from prison.
Just prior to 1960, EJHS made two major changes. First, it increased the number of paid employees and, secondly, the organizational focus changed from acting as a relief agency to the rehabilitation of offenders, public education and justice reform. Today, we continue to grow and change to meet the emergent needs of the communities we serve.
Edmonton John Howard Society is committed to making knowledge, experience and resources available to support communities in their crime prevention initiatives.

Our logo illustrates the cyclical nature of crime prevention. Placing crime prevention programs in our communities will create healthier communities. Having healthier communities will in turn, give us healthier individuals. These transitions will reduce crime.
