Supporting those affected by family violence to make informed decisions to break the cycle of violence
The Family Violence Prevention Centre (FVPC) seeks to increase knowledge and awareness of family violence. We assist our clients in reducing barriers and providing a safe and supportive environment to make informed choices. All of our FVPC services are free. FVPC provides client-centered support to all peoples, inclusive of all gender identities, sexual orientations, and cultural backgrounds.
Family Violence Prevention Centre Services:
- Community Outreach Support: For those experiencing family violence seeking ongoing support and advocacy
- Furniture Program: Gently used furniture for individuals and families who have recently left a family violence situation
- Nalah Centre: Support and advocacy for victims of intimate partner violence in collaboration with community agencies and the Government of Alberta. This program is designed to be one point of contact for victims in criminal docket court.
- Domestic Violence Complainant Assistance Program (DVCAP): Support & advocacy from trained court workers to assist in navigating the court processes related to domestic violence
- Partner Check Outreach Program: Support & Services for the partners of individuals participating in treatment through Forensic Assessment and Community Services (FACS).

Our Goal…
To increase knowledge and awareness of family violence in order to break the cycle of violence. We assist our clients in reducing barriers and provide clients with a safe and supportive environment where they can make informed choices.

- People who have recently left or are currently in an abusive relationship
- Anyone affected by family violence
- People seeking information about family violence
- People who self-refer or are referred by other organizations and professionals

We Provide…
Community Outreach Support
For people experiencing family violence who are seeking: education and information; ongoing emotional support; advocacy and/or referrals to other community agencies. The program aims to increase safety and reduce barriers using a goal-based approach. Self-referrals and referrals from community agencies are accepted.
We provide:
- Safety Planning/Risk Assessment
- Support with navigating systems
- Information / Community Referrals
- Court accompaniment
- Advocacy / Liaising
- Emotional support
- Client services may occur in our office, virtually and/or in the community

The Furniture Program
In partnership with Homeward Trust, FIND: Furnishing Hope provides gently used furniture, at no cost, to individuals/families who have recently left a family violence situation.
- Clients must have a signed lease agreement and be in need of a minimum of 3 items.
- Delivery of items is included.
- This is a one-time service.
- Services may occur virtually, at our office and/or in the community.
- Self-Referrals or referrals from professional supports are accepted.

Nalah Centre
The Nalah Centre offers support and advocacy for victims of intimate partner violence in collaboration with community agencies and Government of Alberta. This program is designed to be one point of contact for victims in criminal docket court.
- The program works with victims of intimate partner violence charged files only, from time of incident to completion of the matter in criminal docket court.
- Clients are referred by the Edmonton Police Service.
- Justice Support Workers provide safety plans, docket court orientation, community resources, and share the wishes of victims with community partners at court conferencing. Our workers are the voice of our clients in criminal docket court stage which ideally leads to early case resolution.
- Client services are provided by phone.

Domestic Violence Complainant Assistance Program (DVCAP)
Domestic Violence Court Workers support and assist victims of family violence going through or who have been subpoenaed to testify in Domestic Violence Court or Queen’s Bench criminal courts by providing:
- Information on the criminal court process including court updates/outcomes, bail hearing outcomes and release conditions
- Assistance with facilitating communication with the Crown Prosecutors’ Office
- Information on rights and resources for victims of crime
- Criminal court education
- Court orientation
- Accompaniment to court
- Ongoing emotional support
- Appropriate referrals to community based programs
- Assistance in Safety planning/Risk Assessment
- Information on programs and services for victims of crime
- Client services at the Edmonton Law Courts and virtually as needed.
For assistance in court preparation and support, please contact us at least one month prior to the trial, or as soon as possible. Self-referrals or referrals from supporting professionals are accepted.

Partner Check Outreach Program
The Partner Check Outreach Program provides support and services to the partner/victim/ex-partner of individuals mandated to attend the Family Violence Treatment Program through Forensic Assessment and Community Services (FACS).
- Client services are voluntary and offered by phone
- Referrals are accepted from FACS.
- Services are client-led and may include:
- General information about family violence
- Safety planning information
- Resource information
- Opportunity for the client to communicate their perspective, any concerns or fears relating to risk or family violence dynamics
- How to report concerns or information to enforcement agencies
