Victims' Assistance Program

Court Preparation and Support

Trained Volunteer Court Support Workers are available to provide advance assistance to victims of domestic violence, who have been subpoenaed to testify in domestic violence court, by providing:

  • Criminal court education
  • Court orientation
  • Accompaniment to court
  • Ongoing emotional support
  • Appropriate referrals to community based programs
  • Safety planning
  • Information on programs and services for victims of crime

To access this service we encourage you to contact the program at least one to two months prior to the trial date, or as soon as possible.

Domestic Violence Court

We are also available in domestic violence court, to assist those who have not received advanced assistance from ours or other programs.

  • Brief court orientation (understand what may happen that day)
  • Safety planning
  • Liaising with the Crown
  • Information and rights for victims (Victim Impact Statements, Financial Benefits Program)
  • Community referrals

Our Program Does NOT make decisions for someone, provide legal advice, provide counselling, discuss details of the offence or provide assistance in cases other than domestic violence.
