Adult Transition Learning Centre

The Adult Transition Learning Centre (ATLC) is a private accredited school, offers integrated educational opportunities in literacy development, academic upgrading, and personal development. Individual educational goals are defined collaboratively with teachers and the learner.

Our Goal

To support the development of a solid working foundation in literacy and numeracy, leading to greater educational and employment opportunities for our adult learners. We achieve this by providing a safe and supportive environment in order for each student to accomplish their educational, employment and lifestyle goals.

Our Program

  • Is a private school accredited through Alberta Education, specializing in literacy and numeracy upgrading and instruction up to a grade 9 level
  • Is open for men and women 18 years of age or older
  • Offers free educational, employment readiness and lifestyle skills programming for individuals who are motivated and committed to learn
  • Is tailored to meet the individual learning needs of each student
  • Requires an initial intake assessment with each applicant to determine their literacy and numeracy skills and needs prior to enrollment
  • Can be accessed through referrals from any outside individual, agency or self-referral
  • Operates over three terms during the year from September to June
  • Offers daytime classes Monday to Thursday from 9:00am – 4:00pm and evening classes Monday to Thursday from 6:00pm – 8:00pm

Our Services

Adult Basic Education

We offer the following courses:

    • Creative Writing
    • Literacy
    • Language Arts
    • Math
    • Computer Basics

We are also able to assist students who want to obtain their GED or challenge the Apprenticeship and Skills Appraisal examinations.

Employment Preparation

We offer workshops on the following topics:

  • Resume writing
  • Cover letters
  • Interview skills
  • Job search techniques
  • Workplace health and safety
  • Job maintenance techniques

Lifestyle Skills and Development

Topics vary from year to year
Frequent topics include:

  • Dealing with addictions
  • Self-esteem
  • Anger management
  • Healthy relationships
  • Mental health
  • Community supports

One-to-One Tutoring

Tutors are available to assist with the learning needs of the students in our program.

We accommodate and support people who struggle with a multitude of barriers including mental illness, addictions, learning disabilities, criminal involvement, abuse, financial difficulties and lack of family support.

Requirements

All we ask is that you be:

  • 18 years of age or older
  • Motivated and committed to learn
  • Not under the influence of any mood altering substances other than those prescribed by a physician

  • Phone 428-7590 to make an appointment
  • Assessment of academic level conducted Wednesday mornings at 9:00 am
  • Interviews held to examine the candidates' educational goals and determine the suitability of the program for their needs
