Public Legal Education
Our Goal
To promote a better understanding of the Criminal Justice System and the consequences of breaking the law. This is accomplished through educational presentations provided to youth in the school system and the community.
Our Program
- Provides educational presentations for grades 1 through 12
- Is designed to be age appropriate, student-centered and relevant to the student’s school and home experiences
- Is available to Edmonton and surrounding areas
- Delivers presentations free of charge; however, we will gratefully accept an honorarium
- Educators are also available to present current, accurate and relevant information on aspects of the Criminal Justice System in a community setting
Our Services
Our presentations are delivered by a team of highly qualified Criminal Justice Educators whose backgrounds include youth work, corrections and instructional development.

Junior High and Senior High Education Programs
Youth Criminal Justice Act:
Presentations include a discussion with PowerPoint, student materials and video.
The focus is on the following:
- Basic Principles of the Youth Criminal Justice Act
- Legal Rights
- Diversion
- Sentences
- Youth Records
Teachers receive a support package to facilitate follow-up discussion.
Online Teaching Resources
While our Public Legal Education staff currently deliver a great number of presentations in Edmonton and the surrounding area (~150km), they are not able to visit many rural communities. A number of online resources have been developed to
support these rural teachers and extend Social Studies, Health, C.A.L.M., and Legal Studies instruction relating to the Youth Criminal Justice Act, Drugs, Family Violence, Bullying, and Gangs. Click on the link below to view these resources:
